Happy New Year!
I pray that you had a Happy Christmas and by God’s grace are ready to begin a New Year.
Enrollment for School Year 2013-14 begins January 14. From January 14-31 there will be priority enrollment for current school families and Our Redeemer congregation members. Next school year we will be offering two 3’s classes, a 4’s class, an extended day 4’s class and kindergarten, ½ day or full-day option. Information about the classes and tuition prices will be available on the display in the commons on January 11. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
The children may each bring one item from home during the first week of January (January 7-11) for special post-Christmas “show-and-tell”. The item may be a toy. The children should be able to tell what the item is, who gave it to them and why it is special to them. They will be practicing speaking in front of their peers, answering questions and learning to distinguish between questions and comments.
We will begin our January Bible stories with the early life of Jesus. Children are happy to hear how Jesus was a child, just like they are. They can imagine Jesus playing with friends, helping His parents and learning to read. Jesus, God’s Son, came to earth to be our Savior from sin. It is comforting to know that Jesus understands completely what it means to be human.
During January the 4’s will study space and in particular the planets in our solar system. The 4’s will also be learning to recognize their last names. If a child is ready to learn how to write his/her last name, we will gladly help them. 4’s students continue their alphabet books each school day. They write a letter, both capital and lower case and learn the letter’s primary sound. In math we will be using an analog clock and telling time to the hour and half hour. Music this month will concentrate on the genre of opera, and our artist is Edgar Degas. Extended Day kids enjoy practicing their new found reading skills in their daily letterbooks.
The 3’s will have fun with a unit on transportation. We will study many ways of getting from here to there on land, sea and air. Look for their evolving study on the wall outside the classroom. As the 3’s are ready to recognize their first names we will assist them in writing the first letter of their name. Counting from 1-20 is also a goal in January.
There will be an opportunity on January 16 and 17 for your family to join us for Pancake Breakfast at Our Redeemer. Pancakes will be served starting at 8:15am. Pastor Mark and Mr. Joel will be doing the flipping. Bring your family; let’s enjoy breakfast together.
As always your family is invited to worship with us at Our Redeemer. Worship times are at 8:00am and 10:45am every Sunday with Sunday School for all ages at 9:30am.
May the Lord Bless Your Family With His Joy and Peace,
