OPEN HOUSE: Tuesday January 30 from 4-7pm
We will begin our January Bible stories with the early life of Jesus. Children are happy to hear that Jesus was a child, just like they are. They can imagine Jesus playing with friends, helping His parents and learning to read. Jesus, God’s Son, came to earth to be our Savior from sin. It is comforting to know that Jesus understands completely what it means to be human.
Along with daily studies in reading, writing and math the kindergarten kids will enjoy a unit on dinosaurs. Authors’ study this month includes HA Rey (Curious George) and James Dean (Pete the Cat). In Spanish greetings, colors, numbers and food will be reviewed. Next is learning family member names and school related words. January artist is Ansel Adams; we’ll try our hand at black and white photography. For music the kinders will enjoy listening to opera.
During January the 4’s will learn about the Arctic, the weather, regions, animals and people who live in this interesting part of the world. The 4’s will also be learning to recognize their last names. If a child is ready to learn how to write his/her last name, we will gladly help them. 4’s students continue their alphabet books each school day. They write a letter, both capital and lower case and learn the letter’s primary sound. Music this month will concentrate on the genre of opera, and our art concept is collage. 4’s will enjoy Mo Willems day and learn how to draw “the pigeon”. Extended Day kids enjoy practicing their new found reading skills in their daily letterbooks.
The 3’s will have fun with a unit on families. They will learn about the needs and wants that are common to all people and that families come in all shapes and sizes. As the 3’s are ready to recognize their first names we will assist them in writing the first letter of their name. Rote counting from 1-20 is also a goal in January.
Every Sunday morning the families at Our Redeemer gather for worship, a time of prayer, praise and learning at 9:30 am. Education hour for ages 3 through adult is at 8:30am. We would love for you to visit!
May Jesus Bless Your Family With His Joy and Peace,
Dear 3’s Families,
The 3’s are having fun with a unit on families. They are learning that all families are unique, but have similar needs. During our Bible time we are learning about Jesus’ early life. The children are interested to know that Jesus was once little like they are and had similar experiences growing up in a family.
Dear 4’s Families,
We are back to our regular routine and the children are busily learning the numerals and word names for numbers one-ten. They are also fascinated with their science unit on the Arctic. Lots of experiments are going on as well as learning about animals and people groups who live in the Arctic.
The Extended Day kids continue to practice their phonics skills in decoding words and even surprise themselves at what good readers they are becoming.
