What I do: I love to ask questions and try and encourage little minds to find their own way to solve a problem.  I look for opportunities to teach kids in real, everyday situations that will be meaningful and important to them and LOVE to celebrate with them when they are successful and encourage and cheer for them when they struggle.  I feel incredibly blessed to be able to play and learn and laugh with your children!

What I love about Our Redeemer: Our Redeemer is so much more than a church, it is community and family.  We love calling this place our home and have been met so warmly and genuinely.

Favorite Bible Verse(s): Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us. And let us run with perseverance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

I love this verse because it reminds me that not only do we have a savior who we can count on to be with us when the road we are on gets tough, but we have others that God places in our lives who will also cheer us on as we follow His will, keeping Him as our focus. So awesome!

Hobbies: Music, sewing, photography and being with my own kiddos!

Fun Fact: If it were possible, I would live in a musical.  Like a real live theatre production where you sing your troubles away and the entire town joins in in a perfectly choreographed and harmonized song. (By the way, it's ok to laugh at how absurd that is.)

What I do: My job as a teacher is to walk alongside sweet children as they grow physically, mentally, and spiritually at Our Redeemer. It is a blessing to prepare activities, lessons and games that spark their imagination and creativity. I get to foster a community mindset, where we can all come together and learn from each other. I love how each child is unique and sees things differently. This allows us to experiment with a variety of different teaching methods. We can role play, use active movement, write, read, see visuals, and create art so everyone can understand and grow. It is truly a gift to see each child reach a new milestone in their development.

What I love about Our Redeemer: Our Redeemer is a family. I love the connection between the teachers, the parents, the teacher’s aides, and the children. We are all committed to teaching and raising amazing humans who care about each other, and about our great God.

Favorite Bible Verse: I could go on for days with my favorite bible verses. God has such a wonderful way of showing you the right words when you need them. Here are a few that I am encouraged by: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has known what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9. “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” 1 John 3:16. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Hobbies: My family is my favorite hobby. We are in a sweet season of life that enables us to do more together than we ever have before. We love hiking, biking, cooking, sports, history, reading, and traveling together. I also enjoy spending time volunteering at my girl’s elementary school, teaching Sunday School at church, and leading my daughter’s Girl Scout troop.

Fun Fact: I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old. I played a little in college and I still play on a co-ed team today! I also help coach my daughter’s team.

Anne Symes, 3's and 4's Teacher Aide

What I do: I serve alongside our preschool teachers to help educate and care for our students.  I am happy to support our teachers in the classroom, and all the little people and families that walk through our doors.  As a Sunday School teacher and preschool teacher assistant, I want to help children learn about the love of Christ Jesus.

What I love about Our Redeemer: I love being a member at Our Redeemer because we come together as a family of faith, to celebrate the love of Jesus.  We are a healthy mix of young and old.  I think our congregation is interesting because a large portion of our members were not raised in a Lutheran church.

Favorite Bible Verse: One of my favorite Bible verses is from Luke 7:50. Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you, go in peace."

Hobbies: I like reading, listening to people tell their stories, scrapbooking, travelling, walking (rain or shine), spending time with family/friends, and watching my children play sports.

Fun Fact: In August of 1990, I drove my VW Jetta from Anchorage, Alaska to St. Louis, Missori, before starting my graduate program in social work at Washington University.

What I do: Greet each child with a smile! My role as a classroom aide is to assist the teachers with the intellectual and spiritual education and well-being of every child. Children are natural players, so making sure they are fully engaged   in purposeful playing activities is key.  I also help facilitate the continuity of the day, class movement and physical needs for the children and staff as we grown and learn to live, love and lead like Jesus!

What I Love About Our Redeemer:  I connected with Our Redeemer through the families of some former students.  The creativity and warmth I found in the staff and classrooms, really creates a safe and fun environment where the children can grow in relationships with friends, staff, and God. Fun and creative teaching methods are important keys to building engagement in the classroom and I saw this all around me at Our Redeemer.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“Start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6   I love the beginners and helping them learn life and school skills they can build on.
