Our Story
Discover the Story of Our Redeemer

We invite you to join us as we continue the story God is writing through Our Redeemer. Every church has a beginning. Ours began with a simple mission: to share the love of Jesus with the growing Tigard community.

In 1987, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod called Pastor Max Schaefer to establish a new congregation in the Tigard and south Beaverton area. What started in a small rented office quickly grew through the dedication of volunteers, community outreach, and God’s blessing.

Our first worship service was held on May 1, 1988, at Fowler Junior High School. As more people gathered to worship, learn, and grow in faith together, Our Redeemer officially became a congregation in 1989.

By 1990, plans were underway to build a permanent church home. With countless volunteer hours and the support of members and the Northwest District, construction was completed, and our church building was dedicated in January 1991.

Today, more than three decades later, Our Redeemer continues the same mission that inspired its beginning: sharing Christ’s love, growing disciples, and serving our neighbors. We thank God for His faithfulness throughout our history and look forward with joy to what He will continue to do.
